Smart Waste

SMARTWaste is a tool that we use to monitor our waste performance across all our sites. It allows us to set up site waste management Plans, so we can input our waste minimisation objectives, our waste forecast, and all waste duty of care documentation.

It allows us to capture the amount of construction, excavation and demolition waste that is produced as well as long how much of it is recycled/reused/recovered/landfilled.

It also allows us to monitor our site energy, water, fuel, and material.

SMARTWaste is a known tool within the UK to monitor waste, energy, water use on site. It is a web-based tool developed by BRE (Building Research Establishment), which is the certification body for sustainable buildings in the UK. It is used to achieve certain criteria within BREEAM.

More Informations

Users of the SmartWaste platform can log in to access their project data, input waste-related information, generate reports, and analyse performance metrics. It facilitates compliance with waste management regulations, as it is owned by BRE, it made sense to use the tool that they provide to capture data that will be used for BREEAM assessments.

  • Regulatory compliance: SmartWaste assists users in meeting waste management and reporting requirements set by local regulations and industry standards.
  • Real-time monitoring and alerts: The platform's real-time monitoring capabilities enable users to track waste levels in bins or containers, providing insights into when they need to be emptied.
  • Sustainability reporting and certifications: SmartWaste offers features to support sustainability reporting, including carbon emissions tracking, energy consumption monitoring, and environmental performance analysis.

Once data has been inputted into the system, it produces a dashboard that allows the site to see how they are performing against waste, energy, and water (see screenshots).

It is a legal requirement within the UK that waste transfer notes are stored for 2 years (3 years for waste consignment notes) and SMARTWaste is used as the tool to store all waste transfer tickets occurring on site. It allows site sit monitor how they are performing, and it is inspected on a monthly basis to see any trends which then the project can put measure in place to improve upon.
